Quote of the Day

"We can experience nothing but the present moment, live in no other second of time, and to understand this is as close as we can get to eternal life."

- P.D. James, The Children of Men

On 7 February 1991, James was created a ‘life peer’ as Baroness James of Holland Park, of Southwold in the County of Suffolk. She sat in the House of Lords as a Conservative. She was an Anglican and a lay patron of the Prayer Book Society. The Children of Men is a dystopian novel published in 1992. Set in England in 2021, it centers on the results of mass infertility. James describes a United Kingdom that is steadily depopulating and focuses on a small group of resisters who do not share the disillusionment of the masses.
